DIY Wedding Bouquet

Published May 12, 2019

The beauty of a wedding bouquet makes them seem like they are difficult to make.  But a DIY wedding bouquet is a fun and easy DIY project.  If you’re wondering how to do it, here’s how.

What you’ll need:

  • Flowers

  • Floral tape to secure the bundle

  • Bouquet pins to decorate the bouquet

  • Flower shears to cut stems and foliage

  • Ribbon to cover the floral tape and decorate the bouquet. Tip: choose a color that matches your wedding colors.

STEP 1:  BUY FLOWERS FROM A SUPPLIER

  1. First, determine your budget. Use this itemized floral checklist to get an estimate. The bigger your bouquet, the more flowers you need.

  2. Next, select the which flowers you want to include. Use our floral guide to view a list of flowers. It shows the name and picture of 75 different flowers.

  3. Buy flowers from a flower market, an online wholesaler, or a grocery store that sells items in bulk.

STEP 2:  PREP THE FLOWERS FOR BUNDLING

  1. Use flower shears to remove all of the leaves and thorns from the stems.

  2. Trim each stem to about the same length. Stems should be 7–9 inches long.

  3. Select your foundation flowers, focal flowers, fillers, and greens.  Here is the definition of each of these terms:

  • Foundation Flower – the flower that makes up the bulk of the bouquet

  • Focal Flower – the flower that is the highlight of the bouquet

  • Filler – florals that add personality to the bouquet

  • Greens – florals that add body to the bouquet

STEP 3: BUNDLE THE FLOWERS INTO BOUQUETS

  1. Gather the foundation flower into a bundle.

  2. Wrap the flower stems with floral tape, starting 2 inches below the flower head, leaving 4-5 inches of exposed stem at the bottom.

  3. Add filler and greens around the outside of the foundation, continuously to wrap the bouquet with floral tape to keep them in place. Wrap the floral tape downward, leaving 2–4 inches of exposed stems.

  4. Stick your focal flower stems into the middle and outside of the bouquet.

STEP 4: DECORATE THE BOUQUET

  1. Cover the floral tape by wrapping ribbon around the floral tape.

  2. Add bouquet pins to the ribbon horizontally, to adorn the bouquet.

  3. Voila! You’re done!

Please keep in mind that your bouquet does not need to be perfect.  It is just an accessory; rest assured that all eyes will be on the bride. We would love to see how your bouquets turned out! Please share pictures in our Facebook group, and follow our page to get notified of new tutorials!
